Museum Entrance Fee

Task:

Many museums charge for admission while others are free. Do you think the advantages of charging people for admission to museums outweigh the disadvantages?

Museums are an important part of preserving a country’s historical and cultural heritage, as the exhibits displayed provide a vast array of information for its visitors. But due to recent economic turmoil, many museums are now charging an entrance fees. In the following paragraphs I am going to discuss the advantage and disadvantages of this recent change in trend.
Firstly, as a museum is a large entity to manage and maintain, it requires funds to keep up its running costs. By application of an admission fee many unwanted visitors are kept at bay, thereby reducing over-crowding especially during the weekends and holidays. Secondly, the extra amount generated is used for restoration of artifacts and also for museum expansion. The newly implicated entry fee at museum of founder of Pakistan; has helped its managers to renovate the entire building and also upgraded the facilities for visitors.
But on the contrary, there is a downside to this scheme. Some authorities are charging an exorbitant amount of money which only a few can afford. So many men and women having a keen interest in history fail to attain knowledge due to shortage of funds. Moreover, many prefer to spend this amount on some amusement park or movie tickets, as for them it’s a complete waste of money to view some old relies.
In conclusion, it is inappropriate to put an admission fee for museum visit. In my opinion the disadvantages outweigh the advantages by many times. Government or other agencies should bear the expenses, so that everyone gets a chance. The British museum is a good example where any local or tourist can enter for free and learn about British history.
